The Annual Meeting and Academic Seminar of Research Committee on Legislation of Beijing Law Society Held in CASS Law Institute

The Annual Meeting & Academic Seminar of Research Committee on Legislation of Beijing Law Society was held in CASS Law Institute on 23 December 2011. The Seminar was sponsored by the Research Committee on Legislation of Beijing Law Society and took ‘Local Legislation and Social Governance Innovation’ as its subject of discussion. The speakers at the Opening Ceremony include Mr. Du Shiping, Chairman of Beijing Law Society, Professor Chen Su, Deputy-Director of CASS Law Institute, and Li Zhengbing, Secretary-General of Theoretical Research Society of Standing Committee of People’s Congress of Beijing Municipality. Mr. Song Shutao, Editor-in-Chief of Law Science Magazine and Li Fuying, Deputy-Director of the Legal Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, each gave a speech at the Closing Ceremony.

The Seminar was presided over by Professor Mo Jihong, Chairman of the Research Committee. Professor Mo, on behalf of the Executive Council of the Research Committee, delivered an Annual Report on the work of the Research Committee. In his report, Professor Mo summarized the various achievements made by the Research Committee in promoting the development of legislative theory and practice in Beijing during the year 2011, and put forward the thinking of work and development plan of the Research Committee in the next year. The Seminar was attended by near 60 experts, scholars and students from various government departments, colleges and research institutions, including the Standing Committee of People’s Congress of Beijing Municipality, the Legal Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, the International Bureau of the Ministry of Education, Peking University, Chinese People’s University of Public Security, the Chinese Academy of Governance, Beijing Normal University, Capital Normal University, PLA Academy of Military Science, China Institute of Defense Science and Technology, Beijing Union University, CASS Law Institute, Theoretical Research Society of the Standing Committee of People’s Congress of Beijing Municipality, Beijing Law Society, and Law Science Magazine. The participants carefully listened to the annual report gave by Professor Mo Jihong, spoke highly of the report and the development idea and mode of the Research Committee, and expressed their high expectations on the future development of the Research Committee. After the evaluation of the Annual Report, the participants carried out multi-level and multi-angle discussions on the subject of the seminar and put forward many realistic opinions and suggestions.
