Professor Liu Huawen Discusses the Establishment of G20 Anti-corruption Research Center in an Interview by the CCTV

On September 24, 2016, Professor Liu Huawen, Assistant Director of CASS Institute of International Law and Executive Director of CASS Center for Human Rights Studies, was interviewed by CCTV English Channel “China 24” about the recent establishment of the Research Center for International Cooperation regarding Persons Sought for Corruption and Asset Recovery in G20 Member States in Beijing Normal University. At the G20 Summit in Hangzhou, the leaders of G20 member states adopted the High-level Principles on Persons Sought for Corruption and Asset Recovery and the G20 2017-2018 Anti-corruption Action Plan, and established the Research Center for International Cooperation regarding Persons Sought for Corruption and Asset Recovery in G20 Member States, which represent important achievements in international cooperation in the field of anti-corruption. Professor Liu pointed out that China has made major progresses in anti-corruption work. The Chinese government has showed great resolution in fighting against corruption and punishing corrupt officials in accordance with law, no matter how high their ranks are, and by doing so, has won extensive support from the people. At the next stage, China will still be faced with many challenges in its anti-corruption work. It should keep the momentum of anti-corruption, continue to promote the culture of a clean and honest government, advance in a comprehensive way the rule of law, and create an environment conducive to the prevention and fight against corruption. Against the background of globalization, the importance of international cooperation in the field of anti-corruption becomes increasingly prominent. As a result of the differences in political and legal systems between different countries and some technical problems, states need to overcome many difficulties in the cooperation in the fight against corruption, especially in the pursuit of persons sought for corruption and recovery of stolen asset.
