On April 14, 2016, Professor Liu Huawen, Assistant Director of CASS Institute of International Law and Director of CASS Center for Human Rights Studies, was interviewed by CCTV Program “Focus on”, in which he discussed the current human rights situation in the US and the country-specific human rights report on China issued by the US State Department on April 13, 2016. Professor Liu pointed out that currently, the US, as a developed country, still has many prominent human rights problems, such as deep-rooted racial discrimination, lack of gun control, and insufficient protection of the rights of women and children. This human rights situation is inconsistent with the level of development in the US. Meanwhile, at the international level, the US government carries out the so-called human rights diplomacy, refuses to ratify many UN human rights conventions, and uses double standard to judge the human rights conditions in other countries. Such practices are in consistent with international human rights standard.
