In the morning of April 15, 2016, the first National Security Education Day since the adoption of the Chinese National Security Law, the CASS Law Institute, in cooperation with the Judicial Bureau of East District of Beijing Municipality, Beijing Law Society, China Democracy and Legal System Press, and other government organs, carried out a series of public consultation activities to inform and educate citizens on the National Security Law. At 9:00 in the morning, the organizers of the activities set up consultation desks and put up signs outside the Octagon Café House near the northeast corner of the Forbidden City to disseminate such legal materials as the Constitution and National Security Law to passersby, offer free coffee, and provide them with consultations on issues relating to the National Security Law. A ceremony was also held to formally rename the Octagon Café House the Café House of Constitution. Professor Mo Jihong, Deputy Director of CASS Law Institute and Director of the Center for the Dissemination of and Education on the Rule of Law and Public Law Studies of CASS Law Institute, presided over the ceremony. After the public consultation activities, a Symposium on the First National Security Education Day was held at the conference room of CASS Law Institute. The symposium was attended by near 30 participants, including legal scholars, officials from relevant state organs, as well as journalists from a number of mainstream news media. At the symposium, the participants first watch a documentary jointly produced by the Center for the Dissemination of and Education on the Rule of Law and Public Law Studies of CASS Law Institute and the Strategic Research Department of CASS Law Institute and CASS Institute of International Law. Then Professor Mo Jihong gave the participants a detailed introduction to the drafting process of the National Security Law. The participants of the symposium also carried out in-depth discussions on various issues relating to the implementation of the National Security Law.
