Director Chen Su of CASS Law Institute Gives Lecture at the Law School of Huaqiao University

 

 

Professor Chen Su, Director of CASS Law Institute and a member of CASS Academic Committee, gave a lecture entitled “The Great Significance and Main Innovations of the Chinese Civil Code” at the Law School of Huaqiao University in Xiamen, Fujian Province on October 23, 2020. In the lecture, presided over by Professor Liu Chao, Dean of the Law School of Huaqiao University, Professor Chen Su first shared his own experience of academic research on civil law, pointing out that the law science is an applied science, for which the study of the knowledge in books is far from enough. In order to master the spirit and the basic theory of law, students must combine the knowledge they learn from books and classrooms with social knowledge. Next, Professor Chen gave a detailed introduction to the process of codification of the civil law in China and explained the great significance of the promulgation of the Chinese Civil Code from the following six perspectives: the re-systematization of civil and commercial law system, the structure of rights-oriented social ideas, fair and unified institutional criteria of justice, the basis of the definition of the relationship between the market and the government, modern elements of the state governance system, and the best basic textbooks on the quality of citizens. Finally, Professor Chen discussed the major innovations in various books of the Chinese Civil Code. After the lecture, Professor Liu Chao gave a summarization of Professor Chen Su’s lecture.
