Professor Liao Fan Interviewed by CCTV on HK-related Bill Passed by U.S. Congress

 

On November 21, 2019, Professor Liao Fan, a research fellow and the head of Department of Research Coordination and International Cooperation of CASS Institute of International Law, was interviewed by the China Global TV Network (CGTN) program “Global Watch” on the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019, passed by U.S. Congress. In the interview, Professor Liao discussed the bill from such perspectives as the principle of non-interference in internal affairs under international law and the mechanism for its implementation, the reasons behind the US enthusiasm for advocating its own world outlook and values, the prospect of the Act being signed by President Trump, the basic standpoint and countermeasures China should adopt on this matter, and the inconsistency between words and deeds of the US on whether it should play the role of the world police.
