Professor Liao Fan interviewed by CGTN on the arrest of leaders of political groups advocating "Hong Kong's independence"

On August 30, 2019, Professor Liao Fan, a research fellow and the head of Department of Research Coordination and International Cooperation of CASS Institute of International Law, was interviewed by the China Global TV Network (CGTN) program “The World Today” on the arrest of Huang Zhifeng and Zhou Ting, two leaders the political groups advocating "Hong Kong's independence". In the interview, Professor Liao stressed that the law is the law. Anyone who violates the law must be brought to justice and a law breaker should not be exempted from the application of law just because he claims that what he is doing is upholding “democracy” or struggling for “freedom”. Professor Liao also expressed his opinions on the necessity and reasonableness of the adoption of law that bans the wearing of veils in public places.
