On April 26, 2016, the Center for the Dissemination of and Education on the Rule of Law and Public Law Research opened the first “Constitutional House” in Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province. The launching of the “Constitutional House” was a new measure taken by the Center to enable legal scholars to walk out their “ivory towers” and carry out the public interest publicity and education on the rule of law at the grassroots level. The launching ceremony was attended by over 60 persons, including Mr. Zhang Jun, Vice Chairman of China Law Society, Mr. Wang Zhenchuan, the former Procurator-general of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, officials from the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Education, State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, leaders of the justice departments (bureaus) of Beijing Municipality, Shanxi Province, Hubei Province, Sichuan Province, Yunnan Province, and Qinghai Province, and from political-legal departments of Jiangsu Province, Wuxi City, and Jiangyin City, scholars from various universities and research institutions, as well as journalists from various mass media. At the launching ceremony, Professor Mo Jihong, Deputy Director of CASS Law Institute and Director of the Center for the Dissemination of and Education on the Rule of Law and Public Law Research, introduced to the participants the books, materials and videos on the Constitution available in the “Constitutional House”. The “Constitutional House” is located within the Xiangshan Book Store in Jiangyin City. It has constitutional bookshelves, a “Constitutional Cinema”, and a “Lecture Hall on the Rule of Law”, which are open to the public free of charge. The Center also plans to hold open salon and other forms of activities of publicity and education on the rule of law in the “Constitutional House”.
