Islands are important components of state territory that play an extremely important role in developing maritime economy, strengthening sea border security, and upholding the maritime rights and interests of the country. Taking the definition and the value of islands as the starting points, the relationship between the utilization and protection of islands as the logic thread and the corresponding contents of administration as the order of elaboration, this book explores from the dual perspective of international and domestic law legal issues relating the utilization, protection and administration of islands, introduces the process and trend of development of international legislation, reflects on the current situation and existing problems, and provides theoretical support for the improvement of the relevant institutions and legislation in China.
