The Seminar “Legislation on the Protection of Personal Information” Successfully Held at CASS Law Institute

   

 

The Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress published the (Draft) Law on the Protection of Personal Information on the afternoon of October 21, 2020 to solicit public opinions. On the evening of the same day, the Seminar on the “Legislation the Protection of Personal Information” was held at CASS Law Institute. The seminar was jointly sponsored by CASS Law Institute and Cyberspace and Information Law Research Committee of China Law Society, jointly organized by CASS Center for Cultural Law Studies, Internet and Information Law Department of CASS Law Institute, and the Innovation Project Team on “Enhancing National Strengthen through the Development of the Internet and Rule of Law Innovation”, and attended by experts and scholars of relevant state legislative and administrative organs and academic research institutions.

At the seminar, presided over by Professor Zhai Guoqiang, Head of Internet and Information Law Department of CASS Law Institute, opening speeches were given by Professor Zhou Hanhua, Deputy Director of CASS Law Institute, Director of CASS Center for Cultural Law Studies, and the person-in-charge of Cyberspace and Information Law Research Committee of China Law Society, and Mr. Yang Heqing, Deputy Director of the Economic Law Office of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. Next, keynote speeches were given by Professor Shen Weixing, Dean of the Law School of Tsinghua University, Professor Long Weiqiu, Dean of the Law School of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Mr. Li Min, Chief of the Policy and Administrative Regulations Department of Cyberspace Administration of China, Mr. Xu Changshuai, a class four investigator at the Department of Industry Policy and Administrative Regulations of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Associate Professor Xu Ke from University of International Business and Economics, Associate Professor Zhang Jiyu from the Law School of Renmin University of China, Professor Zhou Hui, an associate research fellow at CASS Law Institute, and Mr. Liu Jinrui, an associate research fellow at Rule of Law Institute of China Law Society. Mr. Gao Fei, Chief of the Economic Law Office of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Mr. Lin Yiying, Deputy Chief of the Economic Law Office of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Mr. Li Xiangyu, an official at the Economic Law Office of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Ms. Zhang Jing, a Class Four Investigator at Information Center of Cyberspace Administration of China, and Mr. Liu Ye, an assistant research fellow at CASS Law Institute, participated in the discussion. At the end of the seminar, Professor Zhou Hanhua made a summarization of the issues discussed at the seminar.
