The Third Online Seminar on the Construction of Regional Arbitration Centers, organized by CASS Institute of International Law, was successfully held on August 27, 2020. The seminar was presided over by Ms. Mao Xiaofei, an associate research fellow at CASS Institute of International Law, and attended by representatives from the arbitration commissions in the cities of Zhuhai, Xi’an, Qingdao and Harbin.
In the opening speech at the seminar, Professor Liu Jingdong, Head of the International Economic Department of CASS Institute of International Law and a specially invited advisor of the Supreme People’s Court, pointed out that currently there are over 200 arbitration bodies in China in different fields, each with its own characteristics. Today, the arbitration system in China is in a critical period of historical development. The Arbitration Law is to be revised and local governments at various levels are carrying out explorations on the reform of the regional arbitration system. Therefore, the researches on the construction of regional arbitration system are of positive significance to the revision of the Arbitration Law, the construction of regional arbitration institutions, and the reform of regional arbitration system.
Next, Mr. Wu Xueting, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhuhai Arbitration Commission and President of Zhuhai International Arbitration Court, gave a keynote speech entitled “Reflections on the Reform and Development of the Arbitration System in Zhuhai”. In the speech, he discussed in detail such issues as the differentiated development of the arbitration system in Zhuhai against the background of the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the tasks undertaken and challenges faced by the arbitration system in Zhuhai against the background of deep cooperation between Guangdong and Macao, innovation of arbitration in the pilot free trade zone in Zhuhai, and the reform of arbitration institutions in Zhuhai against the background of the implementation of national strategies.
