The Second Online Seminar on the Construction of Regional Arbitration Centers, organized by CASS Institute of International Law, was successfully held on August 7, 2020. The seminar was presided over by Ms. Mao Xiaofei, an associate research fellow at CASS Institute of International Law, and attended by experts from the arbitration commissions in the cities of Chongqing, Xi’an, Qingdao and Harbin..
At the opening ceremony of the seminar, Professor Mo Jihong, Director of CASS Institute of International Law, gave a welcome speech in which he encouraged the participants to freely express their opinions and exchange their experiences and contribute their wisdom to the research in the field of arbitration in China. Next, Dr. Yang Ling, Vice Secretary-General of Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) and Chief representative of HKIAC Shanghai Office, gave a keynote speech entitled “the Ecological System of Arbitration in Hong Kong”. In the speech, Dr. Yang introduced Hong Kong experience in creating international arbitration center and the characteristics of the arbitration ecological system in Hong Kong as leading arbitration locality in the world. After the keynote speech, the participants carried out discussion on various issues relating to the theme of the seminar. They pointed out that in recent years China has made rapid progress in the development of the arbitration undertaking, while at the same time also faced with such problems as lack of influence and international competitiveness, support and safeguard. The advanced experience of Hong Kong and HKIAC is of great reference value to China in the construction of regional arbitration centers.
