The online academic seminar “Sexual Harassment: Nature, Issues and Regulation”, jointly sponsored by the Center for Gender and Law Studies of CASS Law Institute, Women's Studies Institute of All-China Women’s Federation and the Editorial Board of Collection of Women's Studies, was successfully held on June 20, 2020. The seminar was attended by 40 experts and scholars fromsuch research institutions and universities as Women's Studies Institute of All-China Women’s Federation, the Editorial Board of Collection of Women's Studies, CASS Law Institute, CASS Institute of International Law, CASS Institute of Sociology, Peking University, China University of Political Science and Law, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and University of International Business and Economics.
Article 1010 of the newly adopted Chinese Civil Code contains provisions on the prevention and punishment of sexual harassment, which further improves the anti-sexual harassment legal system in China. Taking this new development as the opportunity, the seminar was aimed at carrying out in-depth discussions on the nature, characteristics, and regulation of sexual harassment from an interdisciplinary perspective. The seminar consisted of four units, in which the participations gave presentations and carried out discussions on various issues around the following topics: the nature and characteristics of sexual harassment from the sociological perspective, overseas experiencesof prevention and punishment of sexual harassment, the nature and characteristics of sexual harassment from the legal perspective, and the prevention, punishment and legal regulation of sexual harassment. At the end of the seminar, Professor XueNinglan, Director of the Center for Gender and Law Studies of CASS Law Institute, and Professor Du Jie, Deputy Director of Women's Studies Institute of All-China Women’s Federation, each gave a concluding speech.
