The Online Conference on “Textual Interpretation of the First Phase of China-US Economic and Trade Agreement” Successfully Held

The Online Conference on “Textual Interpretation of the First Phase of China-US Economic and Trade Agreement”, jointly sponsored by the WTO Research Committee of China Law Society and CASS Institute of International Law, was successfully held on January 31, 2020. The conference, which took the online form to adapt to the current epidemic situation, was attended by over 20 experts and scholars from Tsinghua University, Peking University, China University of Political Science and Law, University of International Business and Economics, Beijing Normal University, Nankai University, CASS Institute of International Law, Beijing Global-Law Law Firm, Beijing Anjie Law Firm, and Beijing Wanhuida Law Firm. The conference was presided over by Professor Liu Jingdong, Head of the International Economic Law Department of CASS Institute of International Law and Vice Chairman of the WTO Research Committee of China Law Society. At the conference, the experts and scholars carried out heated discussions on legal issues relating to the agreement, including the textual framework, concrete commitments, arrangement for dispute resolution, as well as the joint declaration of US, EU and Japan, and put forward concrete suggestions on the implementation of the agreement. At the end of the conference, Mr. Yang Guohua, a professor at Tsinghua University and an executive vice chairman of the WTO Research Committee of China Law Society, gave a summarization of the conference.
