The Conference in Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of China Institute of Legal History Held in Changchun City, Jilin Province

 

The Conference in Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of China Institute of Legal History (the 2019 Annual Conference of China Institute of Legal History), sponsored by China Institute of Legal History, organized by the School Political Science and Law of Northeast Normal University and co-organized by the Law School of Jilin University of Finance and Economics, was held in Changchun City, Jilin Province on 9-10, 2019.

The conference, which took “Legislation in Chinese History: Judicial Techniques and Culture” as its theme, was attended by about 300 representatives from universities, research institutions as well as such news media and publishing houses as the CCTV, People’s Court Daily, and Renmin University Press.

At the opening ceremony, presided over by Professor Zhang Zhongqiu, the Executive Chairman of China Institute of Legal History, opening remarks were made by Professor Cai Lidong, Vice President of Jilin University, Professor Chen Guoping, Secretary of Joint Party Committee of CASS Law Institute and CASS Institute of International Law, and Professor Yin Kuijie, Dean of the School Political Science and Law of Northeast Normal University.

  After the opening ceremony, Professor Zhang Sheng, Chairman of China Institute of Legal History and a research fellow at CASS Institute of Law, delivered an annual report on the work of China Institute of Legal History.

Next, Professor Kong Qingming, the former chairman of the China Society of Legal Thought History, and Professor Yang Yifan, the former director of China Institute of Legal History and an honorary member of the CASS Academic Committee, each gave a keynote speech.

In the next part of the conference, Professor Huo Cunfu, Professor Fan Zhongxing, Professor Zhang Renshan and Professor Xia Xinhua each gave a keynote speech on the judicial ideas in the official admonitions in ancient China, the basic pattern of civil relations in traditional Chinese ethical relationship, the movement of withdrawal of extraterritoriality in modern Chinese history, and the periodic pattern of development of legal history in New China, respectively. The rest  part of the conference was divided into five sub-forums, in which the participants gave presentations and carried out discussions on various issues around the theme of the conference.
