Annual Conference of the Cyberspace and Information Law Research Committee of China Law Society Held in Hangzhou(Part I)

On August 17-18, 2018, Annual Conference of the Cyberspace and Information Law Research Committee of China Law Society, sponsored by the Research Committee and organized by the Law School of Tsinghua University and the Legal Affairs Department of Alibaba Group, was held in Hangzhou City.

The conference took “the development of the rule of law in the field of cyberspace and formation in China in the 40 years since reform and opening up” as its theme and was attended by about 300 representatives from various universities research institutions, government organs, and enterprises.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Zhou Hanhua, Executive Vice President and Secretary General of Cyberspace and Information Law Research Committee of China Law Society. At the ceremony, Professor Shen Weixing, Dean of the Law School of Tsinghua University, and Mr. Zhu Chen, Deputy Secretary of the Political and Legal Committee of the Party Committee of Zhejiang Province, each gave an opening speech. In a speech on behalf of China LawChina Law Society,Professor Zhang Wenxian, Vice Chairman of China Law Society, put forward a number of suggestions on the theme of the conference and on the work of the Research Committee.

After the opening ceremony, the second meeting of the Second Council of the Research Committee was held. At the meeting, presided over by Professor Cai Lidong, Dean of the Law School of Jilin University, Professor Li Lin, Vice Chairman of China Law Society, Chairman of Cyberspace and Information Law Research Committee and former Director of CASS Law Institute, gave a work report on behalf of the Research Committee. The work report was unanimously adopted by the Council.

In the next part of the conference, presided over by Professor Zhang Xingbao, Editor-in-Chief of China Legal Science, keynote speeches were given by experts and scholars on such topics as bringing cyberspace and information under the rule of law, guiding the construction of the rule of law in the field of cyberspace and information with Xi Jinping’s thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics in a new era, the law on state secret, intelligent court trial, city brain and future society, and legislative principles on data governance.
