Chinese Journal of Legal History is a specialized academic journal jointly sponsored by China Institute of Legal History and CASS Law Institute, and jointly compiled by the Secretariat of China Institute of Legal History and the Department of Legal History of CASS Law Institute. Consisting of four parts, it covers various branches of legal history, including Chinese and foreign histories of legal system, Chinese and foreign histories of legal thoughts, and legal culture, as well as various fields of discipline that have nurtured the science of legal history, such as jurisprudence, various branch laws, philosophy, history, anthropology, sociology,  and ethnology.

This volume of the journal consists of 11 articles, which discuss a wide range of issues of legal history, including the land litigation activities in the Southern Song Dynasty, acts of conclusion of contract in the Ming and Qing dynasties, the relationship between state laws and customary laws of ethnic Miao people in the Qing Dynasty, the Ministry of Supervision in the Republic of China, the professional ethics of judges in ancient China, the criminal investigation system of the Western Xia regime  (1038-1227),  the ownership of natural resources in the Qing Code, the current situation of the course on foreign legal history in universities and its reform, the legal outlook of scholar-officials in ancient China, the researches on Chinese legal history in Japan, and the academic path and style of Mr. Gao Heng.
