The Sixth Social Sciences Roundtable on Arbitration: Scientific and Technological Empowerment and the Opportunities and Challenges Faced by Arbitration was successfully held online on April 24, 2020. The roundtable was jointly sponsored by CASS Institute of International Law and Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (Shanghai International Arbitration Center) and attended by experts and scholars from CASS Institute of International Law, Institute of Cloud Computing and Big Data of China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, legaldaily.com.cn, China Society of Arbitration, and Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, the Higher People’s Court of Shanghai Municipality, Guangzhou Court of the Internet, International Chamber of Commerce, Shanghai Association for Social Application of Big Data, University of International Business and Economics, Commerce and Finance Law Offices, and Beijing ZhizhongScience and Technology Co. LTD. At the opening ceremony, presided over by Professor Liu Jingdong, head of the International Economic Law Department of CASS Institute of International Law and a specially invited consultant at the Supreme People’s Court, opening remarks were given by Professor Mo Jihong, director of CASS Institute of International Law, and Mr. Ma Kai, deputy director and secretary-general of Shanghai International Arbitration Center. After the opening ceremony, a keynote speech entitled “the Ideal and Reality of Blockchains" was given by Mr. He Baohong, director of the Institute of Cloud Computing and Big Data of China Academy of Information and Communications Technology. The roundtable was divided into two units, in which the participants gave presentations and carried out discussions on various issues around the topics of “reform of and challenges faced by arbitration trial mode” and “the application and prospect of big data in dispute resolution”.At the closing ceremony, presided over by Professor Mao Xiaofei, an assistant research fellow at CASS Institute of International Law, concluding remarks were given by Professor Liu Jingdong and Mr. Wang Weijun, deputy secretary-general of Shanghai International Arbitration Center.
